چکیده

Ashford (1917) noted a faint greenish color in some of the colonies of cultures of Monilia albicars. No other reference to a green pigmentation of Monilia has been found in the literature. Of the 6 species of Monilia described by Martin, Jones, Yao and Lee (1937) and Jones and Martin (1938) it was noticed that Candida stellatoidea2 produced large amounts of green pigment. This was considered of special interest in that it might give another differential character to separate Candida stellatoidea from Candida albicans. In the classification of Martin, Jones et al. (1938) these two species of Candida, although morphologically quite similar, were easily separated on biological differences and pathogenic action in rabbits.

Typing of Candida albicans isolates by sequence analysis of the cytochrome b gene and differentiation from Candida stellatoidea.

Including type strains, mitochondrial cytochrome b genes of 32 strains of Candida albicans and 6 strains of Candida stellatoidea, presently treated as a synonym for C. albicans, were partially sequenced. Analysis of 396-bp nucleotide sequences of the strains under investigation divided C. albicans isolates into three types: type I, type II, and type III; however, strains of C. stellatoidea repr...

Candida albicans and Candida stellatoidea, in contrast to other Candida species, bind iC3b and C3d but not C3b.

It was demonstrated that complement-coated sheep erythrocytes bind to Candida albicans cells grown in serum-free RPMI 1640 medium. Testing of purified complement components proved that iC3b and C3d were responsible for the reaction, whereas C3b and C3b-H reacted only slightly if at all. Binding occurred only to C. albicans and C. stellatoidea, not to other species pathogenic to humans. There wa...

Application of agglutinins for the rapid and accurate identification of medically important Candida species.

Agglutinins have been prepared against the medically important Candida species. Crude antisera to the various species demonstrated intense cross-reactions with heterologous yeastlike fungi as well as with many true yeasts. However, carefully monitored adsorptions of selected antisera allowed the production of six factor sera that proved useful in a slide agglutination test. These six sera permi...
